PBS to air "HairWorld" Competition
The Los Angeles PBS station KCET will air "HairWorld: The Pursuit Of Excellence" from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25th, 2007.
The program follows TeamUSA as they prepare and compete in the International HairWorld Championships in Moscow’s ExpoCenter. Over 300 hair stylists from 40 countries competed in what was called the "Hair Olympics" for gold, silver and bronze medals in timed tests of styling skill. An extravagant awards ceremony was held in the Kremlin Palace. The competition was conducted by Organisation Mondiale Coiffure (OMC).
Highlights of the film include TeamUSA’s rigorous training, stressful setbacks (including a flood and a wrist injury), and the drama of the competition, where colorful hair sculptures took center stage.
The program is part of the "Pursuit of Excellence" series of one-hour films from filmmaker Mark Lewis. According to PBS, the series highlights “people consumed by passion, with strong ambitions in their individual quests.”
