Western Beauty Institute San Fernando Valley campus cosmetology students recently participated in a “Cutting Edge Competition.” The event was held July 2nd at the Panorama City cosmetology school.

The competition was broken into three parts. The first step required hair coloring of highlights and lowlights in any color. The second step involved the cut: trimming, layering, face framing and symmetrical cutting. Hair styling, the final step, required students to style the cut within a thirty-minute time limit.

Seventeen of the school’s Junior students took part in the competition. Western Beauty Institute provided trophies to the winners, and each participant received a certificate. Instructors Ms. Lana, Ms. Estrella and Ms. Melendez were on hand to motivate their students to excel.

First Place winner Michelle Vance was awarded $500 from King Beauty for her entry.  »

Second Place winner Eva Arreola received a professional salon blow dryer from Jose La Tiendita Beauty Supplies.  »

Third place winner Melba Laguna received a professional flat iron, also from Jose La Tiendita Beauty Supplies.  »

Also receiving certificates were: Travis Reinfied, Joseph Greigo, Ana Gutierrez, Jovita Cuevas, Victor Michel, Dalila Ramirez, Beatris Kayzakian, Yolanda Quiroz, Teresa Sosa, Maria Gomez, Micaela Troncozo, Rosa Elias and Elsa Woods.
