Students and staff from Western Beauty Institute participated in the three-day Juneteenth celebration June 15th-17th, 2007 in Littlerock, California. Approximately seventeen students took part, according to WBI’s Event Coordinator Beatriz Alvarez, with the students providing free hair styling to festival guests under the guidance of WBI’s trained instructors.

A number of children present took advantage of the face painting also cheerfully provided by WBI students and staff. Information handouts and flyers covering Western Beauty Institute’s programs and curriculum were distributed at the WBI booth.

The annual event took place at Jackie Robinson Park in Littlerock, California, and included games, live entertainment and food provided by local vendors. Other events included boxing exhibitions, basketball tournaments, dance routines and a car show. The free event was organized by Peg Lee, supervisor of the park, and sponsored by the Friends of Jackie Robinson Park and Los Angeles County. The park is located about 18 miles from Western Beauty Institute’s Antelope Valley campus in Lancaster, California.
